About
Higgins Energy Alternatives is a family-owned home heating and energy business based in Barre, Massachusetts. Originally founded by Ron and Sue Higgins as an antique store operating out of a local barn, the business adapted during the 1979 energy crisis by adding wood stoves and chainsaws to its inventory.
Over the decades, the company expanded its offerings to include powersports (via Higgins Powersports) and eventually moved into a custom-built showroom and warehouse facility in 2012. Today, Higgins Energy Alternatives provides pellet, wood, and gas stoves, fireplaces, and solar panel distribution and installation services throughout Central Massachusetts. It continues to be family-operated by Ron and Sue alongside their children, Chris and Jenn.
